Barsha Nag Bhowmick

Barsha Nag Bhowmick, an editorial leader, has been writing, editing, and telling stories as a journalist for over 25 years, most of those with The Times of India and Hindustan Times. A senior journalist based in New Delhi, she writes extensively on life, relationships, art, culture, and the unseen strength of women, pieces that blend reportage with reflection, and the personal with the universal.

Outside of professional bylines, Barsha has always been drawn to quieter, more inward narratives... stories of memory, longing, love, endurance, and grace. She believes that some of the strongest truths live in everyday gestures: a grandmother’s silence, a vendor’s loyalty, a friend’s unspoken presence, a moment of surrender to the divine.

Her book The Saree and the Smile: Reflections on Life & Love, brings together pieces written over the years, each one a quiet act of witnessing. These are not loud declarations, but soft reminders of what stays, even as everything changes. This book marks the beginning of a continuing series of reflective writings she is gradually shaping, some of which also appear in her independent newsletter.

Barsha is deeply influenced by things... honest and good, and often finds comfort in their clarity. She reads widely, sings Rabindrasangeet, paints, and watches the sky change colour, small rituals that help her return to herself.

This is her first book. It may also be her most personal.
