Nick Stewart Smith

Nick Stewart Smith has been a gardener all his working life. He started out in the Parc de Ciutadella close to the port of Barcelona where he lived for five years. On returning to England, he became head gardener for the National Trust at Overbeck’s, a subtropical garden located high on the south Devon coast’s jagged cliffs. After ten years there, he moved on to take charge of the grounds at Chequers, the prime minister’s weekend residence in the Chiltern Hills, and then completed a further seven years in charge of Lambeth Palace’s historic gardens, eventually leaving to focus on nature projects closer to home in South London.

He has written two books, The Thousand Year Old Garden published by The History Press in 2023 and Wildflowers of London published by murmur in 2025.
