Simon Darling

Simon Darling is a multi-award-winning artist whose work spans painting, writing, sculpting, and woodworking. Across mediums, his practice focuses on moments that are fleeting, unsettling, and human. Drawing on psychology and philosophy, the work operates at the edges of thought—where certainty thins, meaning loosens, and clarity begins to drift. It does not explain or reassure. It observes, isolates, and leaves consequence intact.

His writing includes the trilogy in white, in grey, and in black—three works that move from stillness to tension to collapse, tracing emotional and perceptual states without resolution or instruction.

His most recent book, The Weight of Being Right, shifts from atmosphere to mechanism. It examines what follows clarity rather than celebrating it, focusing on responsibility, consequence, and the behavioural cost of certainty. The work is observational rather than persuasive, concerned less with truth itself than with what truth disrupts once it is known.

Across all formats, Darling’s work resists comfort and conclusion, favouring precision, reduction, and sustained attention to what remains when explanation falls away.
