I grew up on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. During my student years, I worked in a seaweed factory in the village of Keose. Surrounded by tons of bladder wrack awaiting processing, I often found myself gazing into the heaps and imagining little seaweed-like characters living among them.

Years later, after becoming a father, I began creating fictional stories about these characters, and that’s how Keltic Kelp was born. Decades passed, but a few months ago my now 28-year-old son said, “Hey, why don’t you do something with those stories you used to read me?” Inspired by that moment, I decided in 2025 to finally put pen to paper.

Outside of storytelling, I spent many years working in the creative industries as a film producer, and I'm probably best known for producing the 2016 edition of Whisky Galore, also set in the Outer Hebrides.
