Pianist, composer, and arranger, Turi Collura has had an extensive career as an instrumentalist and music educator. He graduated in Italy with a degree in Music with an emphasis on music education (University of Bologna) and from the Civic School of Jazz (Milan). He holds a master's degree from the Federal University of Espírito Santo-UFES (2011) and a postgraduate degree from the same institution (2007).
He works as an online teacher in the field of popular music (Popular Piano, Jazz Piano, Improvisation, Harmony) in free courses and postgraduate programs and has worked as an educator at various institutions in Brazil, the US, and Europe.
In 2003, he founded the Department of Popular Music at the Espírito Santo Music College (FAMES) in Vitória, which he coordinated until 2012. During this period, he taught subjects such as Harmony, Improvisation, Popular Piano, Ensemble Practice, History, and Jazz Aesthetics.
Turi is the author of the two-volume method “Improvisation: creative practices for melodic composition in popular music,” published by the Brazilian publisher Irmãos Vitale, now considered a true best seller and a bibliographic reference in various institutions and universities across the country.
In 2009, he published the method “Rítmica e Levadas brasileiras para piano" (Brazilian Rhythms and Grooves for Piano), currently in its 6th edition.
In 2011, he published the method “Piano Bossa Nova”; in 2018, the method “The Brazilian Piano"; and in 2024, the method “A técnica da continuidade melódica para a improvisação e a composição” (The Technique of Melodic Continuity for Improvisation and Composition).
Active as a pianist and composer, in 2007 he produced his first authorial CD, “Interferências,” recorded in Rio de Janeiro with Nelson Faria, Ney Conceição, Daniel Garcia, Rafael Barata, Daniel Dias, Guilherme Dias Gomes, and João Schmidt. In 2013, the album Interferências was released in Japan by the Disque Dessinee label.
In 2011, he released his second album, “Conversa na Vila,” a tribute to Rio de Janeiro composer Noel Rosa. The work featured a special appearance by the group Arranco de Varsóvia.
In 2022, as director and CEO of Terra da Música, he launched the Graduate Program in Popular Music.
In 2024, he published the method “The Technique of Melodic Continuity for Improvisation and Composition.”
