Cassandra Brighter is no stranger to transformation. Throughout her life, she has undergone many powerful changes—each one reshaping her identity, her voice, and her place in the world.
Born into a Russian family and raised in a Spanish-speaking South American culture, Cassandra learned early on how to adapt and translate herself across languages and customs. She grew up in a highly religious community with conservative parents, but as a young adult, she came out as a humanist—and later, as bisexual. In her twenties, she moved to New York City and once again reinvented herself, navigating an entirely different cultural landscape.
But the most defining transformation in Cassandra’s life has been her gender transition. She had always known herself to be a girl, and stepping into that truth as an adult meant reimagining nearly every part of her life. She redefined her relationships, rebuilt her social circles, and reshaped how she showed up at work and in the world. That journey ignited a deep period of introspection and sparked over a decade of study into global cultural constructs around sex, gender, identity, and roles. She discovered how Eurocentric and Americocentric cultures deeply repress this wider undertanding of the gender spectrum — while many Indigenous traditions continue to honor and preserve it.
Cassandra’s perspective was further shaped by the Black Lives Matter movement, which drew her to reexamine and decolonize her own understandings of gender and identity. The #MeToo movement added another layer, inspiring her to lead women-centered seminars for on Sexual Consent and Boundaries, transforming the lives of hundreds of women.
In 2017, Cassandra founded Empowered Trans Woman, a publication that now has over 50,000 followers.
In 2018, she created a support group for parents of trans kids and has since published several widely shared articles on the topic. She is currently working on a book to help parents navigate relationships between their trans child and the child’s grandparents.
In 2020, she launched Our Sensual Selves, a vibrant community where women explore identity, consent, body positivity, attachment, pleasure, and culture.
The Book on Personal Transformation is Cassandra Brighter's first long-form publication. Written primarily for queer and trans readers, the book functions as a step-by-step guide to help them through the overwhelming, often improvised journey of self-reinvention in a world not designed for them. That said, the book is written in such a way to help ANYONE through a hard personal transformation: the newly-divorced woman, the expat/emigrant facing a new culture, the person making a drastic change in career paths, those distancing themselves from a religious community in search of a more authentic path, etc.
Drawing on her own hard-won experience, on thousands of interviews with queer and trans folk, and on insights from hundreds of interviews with coaching clients, Cassandra unpacks the most common stumbling blocks of major personal change—and offers clear, grounded, and practical tools to move through them. A companion course is available on the author's website.
