John (J S) Morey - K W Sercombe - or Kenneth William Sercombe?
Just to clarify...
I 'created' a persona for my AI 'experiment' - a pen name to apply to AI assisted books I have been working on - just to see how it all works. (Well, even at 79 years old, you do have to keep up with the times, you know.)
Hence - enter Kenneth William Sercombe - a pen name taken from K W Sercombe MOREY, my late father.
I still write and publish under my real name - J S (John) Morey - but NOT AI assisted.
Anyway, back to 'Kenneth William Sercombe' - well - what an eye-opener. Such a fulfilling experience - briefing (in my case) Gemini with quite a detailed 'prompt', a storyline outline, suggested context and era, location - that sort of thing.
And the result?
In my opinion - very satisfying - and, with some reservations on style, a very impressive 'end product'. Certainly the tone of voice and emotional undertones were true to my brief and generated a level of creative writing of which I found I would have been proud, were it written by me, unassisted.
But it's not for everyone, and there is always the issue as to whether or not it will affect 'real writers' and 'real writing' by 'real humans'. My wife, for one - an avid two books a week reader of quality fiction, 'isn't so sure' about Kenneth William Sercombe.
So I'm at a bit of a cross-roads.
One thing is for sure, I will continue to retain respectable distance between John Morey and Kenneth Sercombe.
That can be difficult sometimes when the latter writes better than the former (although the former does 'guide the hand - or pen - of the latter, quite closely throughout).
So, in that spirit, I am always honest. I always stress that Sercombe's writing is AI assisted, just so readers know in advance and, if they object to the process, they can refuse to buy or read it.
But I do hope you will give Kenneth William Sercombe at least a chance.
Thank you.
