Bill Connelly has been a staff writer for ESPN since 2019. One of the pioneers of the college football analytics movement, he is the inventor and proprietor of the SP+ ratings, the most prominent advanced predictive metric in college football today. He previously wrote for SB Nation and Football Outsiders. He's the author of three books: Forward Progress: The Definitive Guide to the Future of College Football (2025), The 50 Best* College Football Teams of All Time (2017) and Study Hall: College Football, Its Stats and Its Stories (2013).
