Cathy J Yuhas

Cathy Yuhas, RN, CEOLD, is an international bestselling author, retired Registered Nurse, Certified End-of-Life Doula, and founder of Dying Matters, LLC. With more than three decades in nursing, Cathy brings together medical insight, lived experience, and a deeply compassionate understanding of what matters most when life becomes uncertain.

Her first publication, Have You Heard You Are Dying?, is a thoughtful 42-page roadmap for individuals and families navigating end-of-life decisions. It explores what constitutes a good death, the importance of grief and forgiveness, and the role an end-of-life doula can play in supporting both the dying and those who love them.

In Walking Each Other Home: Guiding Caregivers and Community Through the Sacred Passage of Death, Cathy offers a more in-depth companion for caregivers, families, healthcare professionals, and anyone grappling with questions about dying, loss, and legacy. Equal parts practical and heartfelt, the book reminds us that dying is not only a medical experience but also a profoundly human one.

Her newest book, Life Beneath the Layers: The Courage to Meet Yourself, shifts the conversation toward how we choose to live while we still have time. Drawing on lessons from the bedside and her own journey of self-discovery, Cathy explores the roles, expectations, old stories, and protective patterns we acquire along the way. With honesty and compassion, she invites readers to consider who they are beneath all they have learned to be and what might become possible if they allowed that person to be fully known.

Across her work, Cathy encourages us to have the conversations that matter, to meet ourselves and one another with greater tenderness, and to live with fewer regrets. Her writing is an invitation to approach both life and death with greater clarity, courage, authenticity, and love.
