Susan Elizabeth is a lifelong animal advocate, educator, and storyteller who believes that kindness, curiosity, and hope can change the world. A former animal behaviorist, conservation educator, and animal caretaker for the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, she now writes books she would have loved as a child—books that celebrate animals, inspire empathy, and help children fall in love with the natural world.
Susan is the founder of Wild Wonders Worldwide™ — Stories that inspire love for animals and the world they call home.
Her journey as an author began with a spark: to introduce children to as many animals as possible through unique, carefully chosen collective nouns—everything from a memory of elephants to a prickle of porcupines—never repeating or doubling up across her series. Her curated list has already surpassed 400 animals and their unique group names, with more on the horizon.
Every Wild Wonders Worldwide™ title appears in two companion formats:
Young Readers’ Edition (ages 4–8) – lyrical, gently poetic pages that enchant and soothe
Explorer Edition (ages 8–12) – fact-filled spreads, endangered-species spotlights, and QR-code safaris that invite real-world action
Together, they offer children both enchantment and understanding—a call to curiosity, to care deeply, and to help protect our wild world.
Her work is inspired by the legacy of Dr. Jane Goodall, whose courage has guided her since childhood; by her father, who helped make so many of her animal dreams come true; by her tenderly strong mother, who always said she should write a book; and by her adventurous husband, who has fueled countless animal and conservation inspired journeys and shares her devotion to the animals they love.
She lives with her brilliant husband whose encouragement means so much to her, the sweetest rescue bunny, and Kona—her beloved dog who rescued her right back.
Though her mother never dreamed of the wild herself, she walked beside her daughter who did—and walks with her still.
