Sylvia Lopez

Dr. Sylvia A. Lopez is the former Director of Counseling Services for the 2nd largest school district in Texas. She spent 41 years of her educational experience as a school counselor and as a principal in elementary, middle, and high schools. She also served as the Director of Counseling Services, facilitating the implementation of the school counseling program, coordinating district-wide initiatives, and actively supporting and sponsoring many of the College and Career Readiness Initiatives.

In August 2017, Dr. Lopez retired to focus on her work in other areas. Dr. Lopez co-founded the Lone Star State School Counselor Association (LSSSCA) in 2017. This association was formed to address the needs of school counselors and provide quality training and information for all school counselors across Texas. She also runs the ProEd Consulting business, helping school district leaders and school counselors understand the importance of a quality school counseling program. This involves providing training and designing systems to benefit both school counselors and the students they serve. Additionally, she runs a nonprofit organization called Thriving Hearts and Minds. This nonprofit offers free training to parents and students of 11th- and 12th-grade students who are preparing for their next journey after high school.

Her inspiration stems from the belief that every student and every adult has the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a difference.
