Dr. Simona Marinescu is an economist, global development leader, and senior United Nations official. For over two decades, she has worked at the forefront of international policy, guiding countries and institutions toward sustainable, inclusive growth. Her career spans work with the United Nations, the World Bank, and governments around the world, with a focus on economic transformation, social justice, and planetary stewardship.
But her journey began long before the conference halls and policy papers. As a child in her hometown, Simona spent countless evenings with her father—Prof. Theodor Neacsu, a scientist and stargazer—navigating the night sky. He taught her to trace constellations, question the cosmos, and listen for meaning in the silence between stars. Though he passed away when he was just 45, he left her with a lifelong curiosity and the imagination to see the universe not just as it is, but as it speaks to us.
Her first book, The Origin Within – Six Memoirs on Matter and Meaning, is both a tribute to those early skyward journeys and an invitation to others: to explore the elemental forces of light, stardust, water, air, time, and fire, through the lens of science, memory, and meaning.
