Adrian Caldwell

I'm Adrian M. Caldwell, a chartered aerospace engineer specialising in jet propulsion and turbomachinery design. For nearly two decades, I've worked across some of the world’s most advanced engine programmes—GE9X, Trent XWB, and Safran’s LEAP—contributing to everything from fan and compressor aerodynamics to secondary-air systems and certification.

By day, I lead technical programmes in industry. But over the years, I’ve also grown frustrated by how opaque and overly academic the world of jet engines can seem to outsiders—even to smart engineers. So I started writing. My goal is to make propulsion concepts crystal clear without dumbing them down: rich with visuals, grounded in real-world engineering, and always anchored by practical insight from inside the field.

I’m a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, an FAA-authorised Designated Engineering Representative, and still very much hands-on with design tools like CFD, thermal-stress models, and performance codes. When I’m not writing or mentoring young engineers, I’m usually flying something with a tailwheel or climbing on two wheels.
