"'Wine in hand, head in the sand.'
That’s how Marcus, a Dutch author based in Berlin, describes his life before a traumatic event forced him to confront why he was living that way. Drawing from his own journey through addiction, mental health challenges, and a diagnosis of ADHD as a highly sensitive person (HSP), Marcus writes unflinchingly honest narratives of healing and self-discovery.
His professional background in sales and training gives him a unique perspective on the complexities of human connection and the transformative power of authenticity. Ultimately, Marcus's work is an invitation to embrace our vulnerabilities, confront our past, and find hope. He believes the most difficult—and crucial—step is being completely honest with ourselves.
My first Review:
This book forces you to face the facts. It holds up a mirror, taking you back to your own past and into the present. The coping mechanism weighs heavily on your shoulders. It's something that has been passed down for generations, for which society is responsible —the idea of what a "good life" is supposed to be. Everything you were taught in your upbringing has been that way for generations. If you don't do it that way yourself, you're not good enough. It's all an act, and above all, it's about putting yourself last. When you finally break that pattern, you become the villain, and everything is projected back onto you. It's beautiful to read that when you come to that discovery and choose to follow your heart, you're not being selfish, but that you deserve it and are allowed to love yourself. Being honest and, most importantly, kind to yourself. Something that happens with a lot of trial and error. When you are happy yourself, you can mean more to others and give more love.
Thank you, Marcus! xxx
