Samuel Hall

Samuel Hall grew up in the American heartland but always wanted to go to Africa. Besides Our Private Africa: A Memoir of Faith, Trust, & Discovery––winner of the Best Memoir Award at the 2023 Cascade Christian Writers Conference––he wrote Daughter of the Cimarron, a historical novel (Ashberry Lane) in 2015, and A Place to Stand, a finalist for the 2023 Oklahoma Book Awards.

A graduate of Oklahoma State University, Sam served in the U.S. Army Special Forces before practicing architecture in the American West, Alaska, and Africa. Working through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), he mentored local nationals for placement in American architectural schools. His travels and work have taken him from the African Cape to the Arctic, the Middle East, Europe, and China. He and his wife, the parents of three adult children, live near Salem, Oregon.
