Louise Peel

Louise Peel wrote her first book in primary 1 with folded paper, a stapler and crayons, an only child with a head full of stories and a love for words that grew louder than the quiet around her. She found her first home in cloth bound fairytale books—where dragons whispered, sisters got into mischief, and magic lived just at the bottom of the garden.

Born and raised in the great literary city of Edinburgh, Scotland, Louise grew up in a city where every cobbled street and weathered stone seemed to murmur a story. It was no surprise she went on to study Scottish Literature and Ethnology at the University of Edinburgh, chasing the roots of folktales and the culture of storytelling that shaped her earliest worlds.

Now based in Dubai, Louise balances life as a nursery teacher, professional singer, and lyricist for her band The Boxtones signed to Universal Music Group. Her writing—whether in song, story, or play-based classroom magic—is always steeped in wonder, humour, and heart.

Her debut picture book, Bedtime for Big Girls, is a love letter to her mum and aunts, inspired by the timeless comfort of Shirley Hughes and the irrepressible charm of My Naughty Little Sister. She’s currently developing a series of story-rich teaching resources for educators and parents who believe books are a gateway to real-world learning. Louise is also working on a magical Young Adult novel that explores growing up, the hidden stories that shape us all and of course a healthy dollop of magic and adventure.

Louise has an equally musical daughter named Rosie and a wonderfully disobedient cat named Willow. If you love stories that feel like coming home—with a little mischief and stardust along the way—you’ll find something special here.
