Born in Rhode Island, Neil McCarthy journeyed to many places physically, but more importantly, he has encountered a vast expanse of mental and emotional states. In 1998, he earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, despite a severe and debilitating break from reality. From that point on, he has been searching for mental clarity anywhere he might find it. Leaving no stone unturned in his quest for mental wellness, he achieved goals in the physical realm too, such as earning an MS in Environmental Engineering in 2005, also from CMU.
Neil excelled at the saxophone from an early age, and a love for music, his constant companion, continues today. Creativity played a significant role in his recovery process, not just in music, but also through writing. Since earning his Master's degree and stays in Providence and Boston, Neil and his wife moved to Connecticut in 2010. Since that time, he has has been working for state government in the clean energy field. In 2013, he and his wife gave birth to their daughter, and they now live in central Connecticut with their two dogs, Murphy and Bean.
Neil continues to explore all aspects of the mind he can uncover, including meditating, reading psychology and spiritual books, attending therapy, and absorbing teachings from gifted spiritual teachers. When he's not engaged in these activities, he frequents local music venues, hikes scenic Connecticut trails, takes vacations in New Hampshire, and enjoys long weekends on the Rhode Island shoreline with his family.
