Ryan Matthew Tooher

Ryan Matthew Tooher is a Purple Heart veteran, author, musician, visual artist, and former Broadway child actor. Born in 1986, he performed as Tiny Tim at Radio City Music Hall in 1995 before enlisting in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout (19D). From 2005 to 2007, he served in Ramadi, Iraq with F-Troop, 1st CAV, an elite autonomous unit known as The Fantoms, operating under direct brigade command. During deployment, he sustained a traumatic brain injury, lost four comrades, and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat.

After returning home, Ryan faced profound personal tragedy with the sudden death of his wife, Christy, due to stroke. This loss became the core of his transformation, fueling a body of work rooted in grief, spiritual exploration, and creative evolution.

Today, Ryan creates across multiple mediums. He writes emotionally resonant fiction and nonfiction, composes dark folk music shaped by personal experience and symbolic themes, and is developing a full-length stage musical. His work explores trauma, transformation, and consciousness through a deeply personal and reflective lens. At its heart, his art seeks not only to confront suffering, but to reveal the meaning and resilience that can rise from it.

He is the founder of Symbol Cult, a symbolic apparel brand that merges ancient iconography, modern mysticism, and artistic expression into a cohesive visual language. Each design reflects Ryan’s philosophy and commitment to meaning-driven creation.

Known online as FantomZap, Ryan shares music, philosophy, and reflections on healing through platforms like TikTok and Instagram. He is a vocal advocate for authenticity, living by the Golden Rule, and building connection through truth.

He continues to channel both the beauty and brutality of life into creations that resonate with those who have suffered, sought meaning, and endured.
