Even as a child, I was fascinated by fantasy. The first book that I can remember reading was Alice in Wonderland. It transported me to a place where anything was possible and, in fact, limited only by the author’s imagination.

From there I added science fiction, from the hard fiction of Asimov and Arthur C. Clark, the space opera of E.E. (Doc) Smith to the wonderfully imagined universes of Ursula K. Le Guin and Stephen Donaldson. Thomas Covenant remains one of the greatest anti-heroes ever created.

And, finally, I added religion. Not in the conventional sense, but from the point of view of where might these beliefs have come from. What other stories might lie behind our myths and legends?

But above all, I believe in stories that explore the relationships between people, whether as couples, family or larger groups and the dynamics that play out among them.

I hope you enjoy my series The Angel Who Loved Me.

It’s about love, trust and betrayal between two related species, angel and human, played out against the background of a war that could destroy them both.
