Ree Rozier combines her love of writing with an active outdoor lifestyle. After growing up in New England farm country, she received college degrees from the University of Colorado and Montana State University, then worked as a newspaper journalist in Wyoming, Alaska, and Montana. She later taught college writing and was a dissertation consultant.
None of these brought the excitement of writing children’s fiction. In this genre, Ree can experience the world of her characters who live with heart and err with abandon, always seeking a path to happy endings. She is a member of SCBWI and the Author's Guild, and an avid supporter of urban forests and climate education.
Ree's middle grade novels, Missing U and Like a Brother, share characters, high adventure, and farm settings on the east side of Montana’s snow-clad Crazy Mountains. Both books explore kids' frustrations of feeling powerless in a chaotic adult world, a topic that fascinates Ree. Her young characters are complex, lovable, and believable, even when they take unwise and fruitless risks to protect their families. (Readers who love The Tenth Mistake of Hank Hooperman by Gennifer Choldenko or Shark Teeth by Sheri Winston will especially love Like a Brother. If you're more a fan of Ali Benjamin's The Thing About Jellyfish, try Missing U!) Both books are beautifully illustrated by Jim Vernon.
