Jim Camp was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. His interests were anything mechanical, and he enjoyed tearing things apart and putting them back together again such as lawn mowers, motorcycles, automobile engines, etc. After he graduated from high school, he joined the Navy which was during the Vietnam Era. When he returned, he went to night school and obtained his BS degree in mechanical engineering and had several jobs as a physical science technician, quality engineer, project engineer and quality/test engineer before leaving corporate America.
In December of 1993, Jim decided to start his own business and founded Metropolitan Home Inspections. He soon realized it was challenging, but also very rewarding as he was helping people understand the overall condition of the home or rental they were about to buy or rent.
He is a certified home inspector through ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors) and is also licensed with the State of Colorado, DORA (Department of Regulatory Agencies) and certified through NRPP (National Radon Proficiency Program) to perform Radon testing throughout the State.
He has inspected thousands of single-family homes up to 16-unit multifamily complexes, townhomes, condominiums, manufactured homes, cabins and small commercial buildings. Many of these inspections were rentals or rentals with an option to buy. This is where he honed his skills and prompted him to write this book, which was solely based upon the condition of these rentals.
Jim takes pride in what he does and thoroughly explains to the tenant the workings of the home regardless of what type of structure it is.
