Tom has worked as a mathematics teacher and a museum educator, and now combines the skills and experience of both as a freelance education and learning consultant working primarily with galleries, libraries, archives and museums in the heritage sector. He undertakes a variety of research and evaluation projects for these organisations, but the work he most enjoys is when they approach him to ask for help pulling on some mathematical thread they've found buried somewhere in an exhibition, object, or story.
To help heritage and arts organisations to get to that point he delivers training on how to spot the maths that's hiding just out of sight, and is often surprised and delighted by the unexpected mathematics that springs forth when educators more at home in the arts and humanities start rooting around with a new perspective on maths.
He also enjoys a bit of writing, too.
