Jason Escritor

Jason Escritor was born and raised on the sun‑drenched island of Maui, Hawaii. Growing up amid its lush landscapes and warm community, Jason learned early the value of hard work and the importance of family. Life in Maui could be both idyllic and challenging—while the beauty of the island offered endless inspiration, opportunities for higher education and broader horizons were limited.

Eager to expand his academic and professional prospects, Jason relocated to Colorado to continue his education. The dramatic mountain vistas and four‑season climate provided a stark contrast to his tropical upbringing, but he embraced the change wholeheartedly. After completing his studies, he moved to Utah, where he began his career and laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial journey.

In 2015, Jason took his first step into the world of publishing by creating and self‑publishing coloring books. His early designs—ranging from simple, relaxing patterns to intricate mandalas—found an audience among both children and adults seeking a creative outlet. Encouraged by this success, Jason expanded into writing children’s books in 2019. Though he had the stories and the illustrations ready, the intricacies of publishing—formatting, distribution channels, marketing—remained a mystery.

It wasn’t until 2024 that Jason finally cracked the code. Armed with hands‑on experience in self‑publishing platforms and a network of fellow authors and designers, he successfully brought his children’s books to market. His titles—blending whimsical rhymes with engaging narratives—resonated with young readers and their parents alike.

Parallel to his publishing ventures, Jason discovered a passion for video creation. He launched YouTube channels and a TikTok presence where he shares everything from storytelling sessions and “what if” scenarios to behind‑the‑scenes looks at his creative process. His warm, approachable style and knack for suspenseful hooks have helped him cultivate a growing community of subscribers and followers.

Today, Jason balances multiple creative streams—coloring books, children’s literature, and short‑form video content—while continually exploring new ways to connect with audiences. Whether through the turn of a page or the scroll of a feed, his mission remains the same: to spark imagination, bring a smile, and share stories that linger long after they’re experienced.

What led you to start writing children's books in the first place?

I’ve always been drawn to the wonder in a child’s eyes when they encounter a story—how a simple rhyme or a playful illustration can light up their imagination. A few key moments nudged me toward writing for young readers:

Coloring-Book Foundations (2015–2019)

Designing and publishing coloring books gave me a front-row seat to how kids (and adults!) interact with art. I’d receive messages from parents telling me how my mandalas helped their children focus or unwind. That joy of knowing my work could spark creativity and calm in someone else planted the seed: “What if I could tell an actual story, not just provide a design?”

Family & Storytelling Traditions

Growing up in Maui, family gatherings often revolved around tales—legends of the islands, personal anecdotes, and made-up bedtime rhymes. My grandmother, in particular, had a knack for turning everyday events into mini-adventures. Those early memories of her spinning stories for me made me realize how powerful a simple narrative can be in forging bonds and passing down culture.

Creative Evolution

After several years of coloring-book success, I craved a new creative challenge. Writing children’s stories allowed me to flex different muscles—plot development, character voice, pacing—while still drawing on my design background for vivid imagery. It felt like a natural next step in my creative journey.

Seeing a Gap in the Market

During my research, I noticed there were plenty of beautifully illustrated picture books, but fewer rhyming stories that also offered subtle life lessons without feeling preachy. I wanted to craft tales that were whimsical and memorable, yet left kids (and their parents) with something to talk about afterward.

All of those threads—my coloring-book beginnings, family storytelling roots, passion for education, creative restlessness, and a market opportunity—wove together into the decision: I had to write children’s books. And once I started, I haven’t looked back!
