Peng Xu received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and was a postdoctoral fellow at UC Berkeley. Currently based in Shanghai, she has held academic appointments at institutions across the U.S. and Asia. She actively promote cross-disciplinary and transnational dialogues in Chinese literary and performance studies, with a particular emphasis on the agency of actresses and women poets. She has published in leading journals including Harvard Journal of Asiatic Studies, Late Imperial China, T’oung Pao, CLEAR: Chinese Literature, Essays, and Reviews, and Ars Orientalis. Her research-related activities have been funded by the Kyujanggak Institute at Seoul National University (2021), Fulbright American Scholar program (2020), ACLS/Henry-Luce Foundation (2018), among others.
A scholar-performer specializing in Kunqu and Jingju (Peking Opera), Dr. Xu integrates scholarship and stage practice, bringing historical insight and aesthetic precision into every performance. Her stage work includes both classical interpretation and intercultural innovation. She has received recognition through media coverage (CCTV, China Daily, etc.).
