J.R. Cartier — The Successor from the Shadows

J.R. Cartier was born in 1986, but he only truly came into being by inheriting a ghost.

That of J.R. Stark, an enigmatic author who vanished without a trace—no address, no afterword—somewhere between lines of code and a dream too vast to hold.

They say Stark wrote like someone shouting into the void. Cartier writes to map the echo.

Raised on Japanese manga, dusty VHS tapes of Dark City, and novels by King and Tolkien tucked away in the youth section of neighborhood libraries, Cartier crafts worlds on the edge of reality. His stories—part science fiction, part fantasy, part the stuff of nightmares—are marked by obsessive detail, dark humor, and a tenderness hidden behind the monsters.

He never speaks of what really happened with J.R. Stark.

But in a confidential interview, he once said:

"We were not the same person. He was the crack. I am what slipped through."
