MARCELLO GAROFALO
He is a film critic, director, essayist, novelist, curator of exhibitions (on Sergio Leone, Bernardo Bertolucci, Walt Disney, Dario Argento).
He collaborated with “Ciak” from 1997 to 2024, for “Linus” magazine and was part of the editorial board of “Segnocinema”.
Since October 2024 he has taught History of Cinema and Visual Arts at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome.
He is the author of many books, including “Once Upon a Time in America – Photographic Memories” (Editalia, 1988); “The Last Emperor – History of a Journey towards West” (I.P.Z.S., 1991); “L’Immagine-Cinema” (I.P.Z.S, 1992); “Westmoreland Naples – Poses and Beat Visions from the Newark Theater to the Parthenope” (Electa, 1997); “Bertolucci Images” (Electa, 2001); the Dr. Carelli Trilogy, a series of three novels featuring the character he created: “The Sizzling Nights of the Diabolical Dr. Carelli” (2017), “Diabolical Dr. Carelli Returns – Hell’s Apocalypse” (2021), “Diabolical Dr. Carelli Strikes Again – Final Reckoning” (2023) published by Dark Gem Press both in Italy and in the United States; “Cinema is Myth – Life and Film by Sergio Leone” (Minimum Fax, 2020); “Bernardo Bertolucci – Before the Revolution Today” (La Nave di Teseo, 2024).
He edited the volume Disney “Disney Recipes” (Disney Libri and Disney Editions 2003).
He is the author of the film “Three Moral Women” (2006) and the documentary film “Angel in the Flesh” (1999).
Since 2016 he has been part of the jury that awards the David di Donatello Awards to the cinematographic works of Italian, European and foreign films.
