D.L. Harrington has been interested in history since the 1960s, especially World War II. His father served honorably in the United States Army Air Forces, fighting in Europe. Many of his classmates also had fathers who served during that period in our nation’s history.
Harrington’s father was a crew member of an Army Air Forces B-24 bomber that was shot down by enemy forces over Naples, Italy. After capture, he spent 14 months being shifted between prison camps by the Italian and German troops. Eventually, he was repatriated, recovered from injuries, and started a family back home in the U.S.
Harrington loved to listen to his father’s stories about the events of the war. Later, Harrington and his brother joined the Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict as they also served our country. D.L.’s sister served our nation in the Army for twenty-two years. D.L. had two son-in-laws serving our country in the U.S. Navy. It seemed serving our nation was a family tradition.
Years later, D.L. began compiling several records of events into a story that brought to life his father’s trials and experiences.
D.L. completed his first unpublished manuscript years prior, which was about his personal history and events of his early life for the enjoyment of his growing family. He felt that now, with this novel, it was time to dedicate this work to his father’s legacy by bringing to life his father’s history of decades long past and publishing it for others to read.
When D.L. isn’t writing, he enjoys diving into genealogy research. He’s been passionate about various sports for many years and has spent decades as an official for youth sports programs. His love of historical movies from all periods offers him a relaxing escape from the busy life he shares with his five children and nineteen grandchildren.
