As a child I was diagnosed with type-one diabetes. This condition is horrific and it’s seldom understood. Every day I have to inject insulin and eat enough food to counteract its potency – it’s that or I pass out.

There is no cure for this dreadful disease and the treatment is haphazard at best. Everywhere I turn there are restrictions. I cannot be a policeman; I cannot drive a train and the list of cannots and do-nots could easily run off the page.

One thing I can do is write and I love interesting characters. I adore unusual names. Mostly, because they elicit a mental response. People we walk past in a crowd are components of an endless stream. But once we hear a name, the crowd fades into the background and our mind assembles an image. A stranger becomes an entity and this assemblance becomes the story.

Life is what it is, and much of that is dictated – I didn’t choose to be diabetic and many things in your life will be the same. That’s why my stories cover everyday events. People just doing their jobs, carrying out what life has decreed. Then, something trips them up – like an unexpected romance or the deviousness of a plot. This is where the fun kicks in. To me, people are what they are and what brings them out can be revealing.

I have written several entertaining novels and after spending years trying to get them published, I have decided to self-publish with Amazon’s KDP. Doing this means I have the potential to release further enjoyable stories. I want you to enjoy the thrills. To immerse yourself in the unfolding story and feel the tension rise. Where the characters try to understand what is happening and show you what’s going on inside.

Reading should be a pleasure. Whether that’s conducting meaningful research, stimulating a curious mind or just relaxing in a beachside deckchair with a good book. All of these are equal pastimes and share their place in each of our lives. I just hope that when you pick one of my novels, you’ll see the lighter side to our serious world.
