Joe Gschwendtner

Joe Gschwendtner has called Douglas County “home” for 25 years. He has written for local newspapers and miscellaneous magazines, including entertaining and informing readers of the Castle Pines Connection, for almost 15 years. To say he is enraptured with the County would be an understatement to all who know him.

Joe is a Cornell University graduate, a former Captain in the U.S. Army, an accountant by training, and an entrepreneur in practice. He and wife Barbara, married 55 years, have hiked most of Douglas County’s idyllic trails and he is in frequent contact with other historians, archivists, curators, and authors who have compiled the colorful lore accessible on library and museum shelves. His two daughters, Alison and Stephanie, and his son Darrell and their spouses have gifted him and Barb five most special grandsons.

Joe’s penchant for the subject may be traced to his father’s own immigrant journey, from Germany to New York in 1927, and his zest for adventure in travel, especially to Australia.
