Mary V Morton

Mary Morton is a climate concerned grandma with a lifetime interest in sewing. Inspired by the global street stitching movement, she combined her passion for the environment with her sewing expertise to set up Edinburgh Street Stitchers in her home city Edinburgh (Scotland, UK).

The Edinburgh Street Stitchers are regularly seen in streets and parks with their ‘Stitch it Don’t Ditch It’ banners, raising awareness of the environmental reasons for reducing consumption of textiles and sharing sewing skills. Their mission is to enable people to repair what they wear so they can keep their clothes for longer which reduces their impact on the environment.

After retiring from her career as a pharmacist, Mary has found great joy in introducing complete beginners to top tips like the easy way to thread a needle, how to replace a button and sew a hem; as well as tackling more complex garment repairs with other street stitchers.
