Liz Hickson knew as a small child that the secret to a happy fulfilled life was one that comprised lots of travel to faraway lands and many dogs. It is no surprise that she now finds herself the author of fiction books inspired by her many real travel adventures and the Chocolate Labradors who continue to be a constant source of joy and reliability. Liz has always sought to be her best version, constantly striving for happiness and meaning, in at times, a difficult life journey. From her childhood in The United Kingdom, to a high-powered career in clinical medicine that took her to Australia, she is now in a chapter where health, authenticity and her own dreams, have resulted in stories that explore true friendship, other realms and the nature of darkness.
Her writing partnership with Carole Foot began when they were still practicing doctors. They are now bringing together a shared passion for writing, advocacy for literacy, especially in poorly resourced contexts, travel, food and photography with a love of dogs. They thought it would be impactful to encourage reading by drawing those who enjoy the magical realism genre to further squint between fantasy and reality by meeting the real protagonist of their books first-hand, as well as online.
The ethos of their self-publishing company, 'The House of Hickson, Pty Ltd’, is the ‘more we sell, the more we can donate’. Two series are now available.
'Geo the Space Explorer' is a completed 23 book, epic fiction series for adults, although the first 3 are suitable for a YA audience. 4-5 per year are being released. 'GJ the Earth Explorer' is a digital art series for younger readers and the young at heart, including those still mastering reading or learning English.
Geo and GJ are their real dogs. GJ is a Therapy Dog in training whose energy and affection is termed 'GJ magic'. For a daily dose of heroes, villains and brown dogs visit their world @geohickson
