Robert Boyd

Robert Boyd (Professor Emeritus Philosophy) taught at Fresno City College (Fresno, California) until he retired in 2017. (B.A. Trinity College; M.A. Texas Christian University; Ph.D. University of Wales, Lampeter (Trinity St. David)). He served two terms (six years) on the APA subcommittee for Philosophy at Two-Year Colleges as well as ten years doing site-visits for ACCJC, the regional accrediting agency. Much of his work has been in logic, but he also is interested in the theology of religions and philosophical theology. His primary teaching responsibilities at FCC were Theories of Knowledge and Reality, Symbolic Logic, and World Religions. Bob participated in the 2010 East-West Center’s Asian Studies Development Program Institute on Infusing South Asia into the Undergraduate Curriculum. He was a recipient of the 2012 Hayward Award for Excellence in Education (presented by the Board of Governors for California Community Colleges). Bob was honored as the Faculty Emeriti 2021 - Humanities. He published Critical Reasoning: The Fixation of Belief (Colonial Press, 1992), Writing With Logic In Mind (Harcourt Brace, 1994), Critical Reasoning and Logic (Prentice-Hall, 2003), and Approaching the World’s Religions: vol 1 Philosophically Thinking About World Religions and vol 2 An Evangelical Theology of Religions (Cascade Books, 2017), Fairytales for Life – In Three Parts (Amazon Publishing 2025), contributed to The Philosophy of P. F. Strawson (ed. Lewis Hahn, Open Court Press, 1998) and Open-Mindedness in the Philosophy of Religion (eds. Gregory Trickett and John Gilhooly, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2019), as well as articles for Teaching English in the Two-Year College, Cogency: Journal of Reasoning and Argumentation, Direction Journal: A Mennonite Brethren Forum, Interreligious Insight: A Journal of Dialogue and Engagement, Evangelical Review of Society and Politics, Perspectives in Religious Studies, and APA Newsletter Philosophy in Two-Year Colleges.
