Danny Friedmann

Dr. Danny Friedmann is Associate Professor at Peking University School of Transnational Law (北京大学国际法学院) in Shenzhen. He has a PhD in Laws from the Chinese University of Hong Kong; a Meester in de rechten (LLM including LLB) from the University of Amsterdam; and a BBA from the Nyenrode Business University in Breukelen, the Netherlands. He also taught at CUHK, and Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

His articles are published by HILJ, NYU JIPEL, IDEA, Journal of Intellectual Property Law and Practice (Oxford University Press), Journal of World Intellectual Property, European Intellectual Property Review, GRUR International, International Journal for the Semiotics of Law, California Western International Law Journal, Asia Pacific Law Review, Benelux Trade Marks and Design Rights (BMM) Bulletin, and Jus Vini.

His book chapter on Google and China was quoted by the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union in Google Spain C-131/12 in 2013.

In 2021, he wrote the chapter on Trademark Law and Related Rights (GIs, enterprise and trade names, and domain names) for the 2nd edition of ‘Intellectual Property Law in China’ edited by Christopher Heath; and co-edited/co-authored the book ‘Wine Law and Policy, From National Terroirs to a Global Market, with Julien Chaisse and Fernando Dias Simões in 2020. The book was awarded the OIV prize in 2021. In 2015 Friedmann wrote a monograph called 'Trademarks and Social Media, Towards Algorithmic Justice'.
