Jane Labous

Jane Labous is a novelist who explores the human experience through fiction and other prose forms. Her published works include three contemporary novels: Oh, Sugar (Afsana Press, 2024), Past Participle (Afsana Press, 2023), and The Chameleon Girl (Farafina Books, 2022). Her fiction has been longlisted for prizes including the Bath Novel Prize 2022 and the Santa Fé Writers Project Literary Award 2022.

Jane is also an award-winning journalist, known for her frontline coverage of human rights, humanitarian and gender issues, always telling the powerful human stories behind the headlines. Her credits range from the BBC to Al Jazeera, Voice of America, the UN news service, and many more. She has worked as a writer and film producer/director for INGOs including Amnesty International, Save The Children, and The World Health Organisation.

Jane has won the BBC Radio 4 and Royal Geographical Society Journey of a Lifetime Award; a European Journalism Centre Development Reporting Grant, a Guardian Development Prize; the Merck More than a Mother Media Recognition & Film Award for Francophone African Countries, and Best Documentary at the Southampton Film Festival. In 2024, she was shortlisted for an Amnesty Media Award for her feature documenting the stories of child soldiers in Burkina Faso.

Jane is a devoted solo parent, and lives in Dorset with her daughter. She is currently working on her fourth novel.
