George Georgiou is a full professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Alberta, Canada, and the director of the J. P. Das Centre on Developmental and Learning Disabilities. His research focuses on the prevention and remediation of reading difficulties as well as on the role of teachers' professional development in their students reading performance. In 2020 he was seconded to Alberta Education to develop the new English Language Arts curriculum and in 2022 he was in charge of developing local norms for the mandatory literacy screeners in the province.
