Stephanie Norgate

Stephanie Norgate is a poet, novelist and playwright. Her radio plays have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and include the award-winning The Greatest Gift, as well as Clive and a Woman's Hour series based on the life of a nineteenth century undercover woman journalist. Her poetry collections, published by Bloodaxe Books, are: The Conversation (2021), The Blue Den (2012) and Hidden River (2008, shortlisted for the Felix Dennis Forward First Collection and Jerwood Aldeburgh awards.) Her poems have appeared in many magazines and anthologies, including Oxford Poets, The London Magazine, Magma, Poetry London and MsLexia. She co-edited and contributed to a book of essays, Poetry and Voice (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2012).

For many years, she ran and taught on the MA in Creative Writing at the University of Chichester, where she was also a PhD supervisor for many creative projects and a Reader in Creative Writing. Since leaving, she has worked as a Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Southampton University and continues to freelance for the Royal Literary Fund. As well as her university work, she has given many public and often site specific creative workshops in old houses, museums, libraries, gardens and art galleries. She has given many poetry readings - in theatres, barns, museums, gardens, once in the car park of a windmill, as well as pubs, churches and one or two rooms frequented by Keats. She particularly enjoys working with the South Downs Poetry Festival in her local area.

She is lucky enough to live in beautiful Sussex with her writer husband and has two adult children.
