Dw Sartain

“I never thought that I would become an author, much less an author of children’s books.” DW Sartain has taken a first step into the colorful world of children’s literature with the release of his first work, ‘A Red Balloon’, a story that he says was inspired by his daughter and her love for picture books, and a specific obsession with the red balloon that makes a brief appearance in Margaret Wise Brown’s, ‘Goodnight Moon’. “I’ve had the manuscript written for over two years, but after our family experienced the unexpected loss of the only child to call me uncle, I felt that I had missed an opportunity to share the story with my niece…that I had waited too long to push and get it published.” According to Sartain, that tragedy pushed him to become a children’s author, and in July 2026 he will release his newest title, ‘Beyond the Pink Horizon’, which is dedicated to the memory of his niece.

With two books currently published, Sartain shows no signs of stopping. “I’ve published two within two years, which I feel good about since this is really secondary to my full-time job and parenthood. I am working on the first draft of a novel and I’m not ruling out more children’s books shortly in the future.”

‘A Red Balloon’ was published in February 2025 and his latest work, ‘Beyond the Pink Horizon’, releases July 2026. He is a blue collar husband and dad of two with an English degree earned from Georgia College and State University. Originally from Elberton, Georgia, he currently resides in North Augusta, South Carolina.
