Katrina Chen

Katrina Chen (陳葦蓁) moved to Canada from Taiwan on her own and began her career in grassroots community work before being elected as a Burnaby Board of Education Trustee. She later served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Burnaby-Lougheed, becoming the first Taiwanese-born Canadian appointed to the BC Cabinet as the Minister of State for Child Care, where she laid the groundwork for a new 10-a-Day child care system.

With 18 years of experience in community engagement, including a decade in elected office, Katrina is now a certified coach and the President of 安信 Community Savings, the first Chinese Canadian and Chinese-language credit union initiative in BC. She has openly shared her experiences as a survivor of gender-based violence and is the author of A Stronger Home, a children's book dedicated to raising awareness about family violence. She continues to advocate for child care, mental health, and equity.
