Alyssa Skyes

Born into a family of thirteen children, I spent my early years traveling with nomadic parents across Central and South America and beyond. This colorful and unpredictable upbringing exposed me to many of life’s contrasts—comfort and discomfort, wealth and poverty, rootedness and movement, and the variety of experiences this world brings. This fluidity helped shape my creative spirit and gave me a lifelong interest in impermanence.

For much of my adult life, I have worked in the arts as a photographer, editor, painter, and poet. I have never been drawn to a single medium; acrylic, watercolor, gouache, collage, photography, hand-coloring, and writing each offer different ways to translate what feels unseen into something visible. Creativity is my constant companion.

My work is deeply influenced by the fleeting nature of life, the resilience required to navigate it, and the quiet awareness that we are temporary beings carrying something that does not feel temporary. I am drawn to the relationship between the invisible and the tangible—the interplay between energy and matter, time and form, love and responsibility.

 

Much of my writing reflects on duality, consciousness, and the habits we accumulate that shape who we become. I love that constant dance of energy, the sacred force within all matter, and the sparks of its inspiration as it passes from contact to contact.

At the heart of everything I create is curiosity. I believe awareness matters more than allegiance, that attention becomes accumulation, and that even in a divided world, we remain responsible for who we become.

Through art and writing, I hope to inspire others to uncover the extraordinary within the ordinary and to encourage a life filled with diverse and profound experiences that lead to the growth of all we can be.
