Roger Alfredo Martinez

Roger Alfredo Martínez was born in the beautiful Granada, Nicaragua. His great-grandparents brought him up as his mother left him when he was 8 days old, and he never knew who his father was. He had difficult teenage times, but when he was 23, he decided to change his life for good.

Martinez is now a Nicaraguan clinical psychologist, writer, and former political prisoner of the sandinista regime in his home country. In July 2018, he was detained in Granada while assisting injured protesters during the political unrest in Nicaragua. He endured approximately nine months of imprisonment, during which he faced physical and psychological torture. Following his release, Martínez sought refuge in Costa Rica in September 2018 due to ongoing threats and aggressions from sandinista officials and paramilitary forces.

In exile, Martínez continued his professional work and advocacy. He authored "El Preso de la Celda 16: Catarsis de un preso político," a testimonial book detailing his experiences as a political prisoner.

Additionally, he wrote "Personas Ordinarias, Mentes Extraordinarias," and "Esta Bien Estar Mal", focusing on personal development and resilience.

Martínez has been active in raising awareness about mental health issues stemming from political crises, emphasizing the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder among affected populations.

As of September 2023, Martínez was resettled in the USA after five years in exile in Costa Rica. Now, he is writing his fourth book, but the very first one entirely in English, reflecting on the challenges and growth he has experienced through workshop-type writing sharing tools to understand, deal and reflect on our emotions.

"Give Your Emotions a Voice" is a book that can help anyone find a life of balance, growth, and authenticity.
