Miguel Fuentes

Miguel Fuentes was born in San José, Costa Rica, where he grew up surrounded by places that now live on as urban legends—old malls, dusty bus terminals, and the kind of everyday chaos where stories love to hide. From an early age, he discovered that writing was his way of making sense of the world, earning recognition as a finalist in the national Letra Joven literary contest.

His professional career has been in the field of International Relations, but his intellectual curiosity has led him down diverse paths. Though he began studies in systems engineering, his journey ultimately guided him to two master's degrees in administration and multiple specializations, including one in data science from Johns Hopkins University. This blend of a global perspective, analytical thinking, and a deep human sensibility is the engine of his writing.

His commitment to service is reflected in his role as the Executive Director of an international nonprofit focused on inquiry-based education and ecological literacy, leading multicultural teams across Latin America and the U.S. He also serves on the organizing team for TEDxPuraVida, helping to amplify ideas worth spreading. At home, he is a father of two teenagers, a husband in love for over fifteen years, and an enthusiast of forests and cold weather.

His books are a direct reflection of his life. His debut novel, Ellas y Nosotros, is a nostalgic journey to 1990s Costa Rica. His second book, The Year I Learned to Live, was born in silence and uncertainty—after a single word, lymphoma, disrupted everything. It wasn’t written by a professional author, but by a human being seeking to heal, understand, and offer companionship through storytelling.

Miguel writes not from certainty, but from honesty; not to teach, but to connect. He firmly believes every story shared can become a lighthouse for someone else.
