Dr. Madeleine C. Forrest

Madeleine Forrest is an assistant professor of history at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. She holds a PhD from the University of Arkansas and her scholarly works primarily focuses on the Civil War in Virginia, examining how the war affected the lives of southerners on the local level. She also examines questions of citizenship during and after the Civil War and the ways in which ex-Confederates fought to regain power and control during Reconstruction. She is currently working on a book manuscript entitled, “The Cruel Consequences of War: Life in Fauquier County, Virginia, 1861-1865.”
