Andy Sandham

With over 12 years of experience as a Senior Lecturer and Subject Lead in Game Design and Development, I’m passionate about equipping students with the skills they need to succeed in the game industry. Prior to my academic career, I spent 20 years in the game industry, contributing to iconic titles, including the original Tomb Raider series, Theme Park, and Magic: The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers, working across various disciplines such as Level Design, Art/Environment Art, and Scriptwriting.

My expertise spans a wide range of areas, including all aspects of design (from level and content design to UI and VR), narrative development (story construction, scriptwriting, mocap, and audio direction), and client vision management.

I hold a Masters (MSc) in 'Game Mechanisms that Promote Learning Through Play' and have published two papers focusing on behavioural game design and virtual reality. I’m excited to share my knowledge and experience with the next generation of game designers through my work both in academia and beyond.
