Why is it that despite much effort and investment in improving lives, for many they are getting worse? I have worked, filmed and studied for over 25 years in countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America and what I’ve seen in the villages, towns and cities I’ve visited is that for those in poverty nothing much changes and in fact choices made far away from their settlements even make things worse. Why? The conundrum led me to study and research at the University of Manchester, UK and I’ve gone on to write widely, including the two books ‘Disaster Makers’ and ‘Making Aid Agencies Work’. I also publish videos and newsletters on this theme through my organisation, 'Inventing-Futures'.
