Retirement after practicing primary care medicine for 37 years gave me the opportunity to write for real. I had the time. Writing was something I always wanted to do- erroneously I thought I had written every day of my professional career- I rapidly learned that documentation (medical) is not “writing”-to be read by others. The idea of assembling my four-year prose collection was a learning exercise and facilitated a transition from my previous life as a practicing physician to retirement. Life, days, hours and years keep moving on. My musing and rumination on the way to work were inspired by a magnificent commute over water daily.
