Sidney Rose McCall

Sidney Rose is a historian and current PhD history candidate. She received her Masters Degree from Florida A&M University and has worked and consulted with the Association to Preserve the Eatonville Community, Inc. in Zora Neale Hurston’s hometown of Historic Eatonville - the oldest incorporated Black town in the United States. She has also done preservation work with other historic Black communities and programs, nurturing her community-minded approach to storytelling and scholarship. Her current studies focus on the environmental histories of abolition, early civil rights, and the many underground railroads and food systems that transformed the worlds and workings of Black fugitives and freedom-makers.

Alongside history, Sidney Rose is deeply immersed in storytelling around afrofuturism, ethnoastronomy, fantasy, and the mythologies and folklores that bridge ancestral communities to radical creativity.
