Manasvi Lingam

Manasvi Lingam is Assistant Professor of Aerospace, Physics and Space Sciences at the Florida Institute of Technology, with secondary affiliations in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and in Mathematics and Systems Engineering; he is also a Research Fellow in the Department of Physics at the University of Texas at Austin. He obtained his PhD in Physics at the University of Texas at Austin, and undertook postdoctoral research at Princeton University, Harvard University, and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

Dr. Lingam has published over 100 scientific journal papers in various subjects ranging from astrobiology and planetary science to mathematical physics, plasma physics, and astrophysics to aerospace engineering, computational chemistry, and evolutionary anthropology. His primary research interests revolve around the fundamental question of "Are we alone?" in the Universe. Dr. Lingam is the lead author of two acclaimed books in astrobiology – Life in the Cosmos (Harvard University Press 2021) and From Stars to Life (Cambridge University Press 2024).

He is a Senior Editor of the journal Astrobiology and is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (UK). Dr. Lingam has been recognized with Rosalind Franklin Society Award in Science (2025) and Faculty Excellence Award for Research (2025).
