Mat Megens is the founder and former CEO of money management app HyperJar. Born on a farm in Canada, he began his career as an electrical engineer and managed to find himself in the thick of the dotcom boom, working with startups in the Boston tech scene. He then made a career change to investment banking in London right around the peak of the credit crisis including a stint at Lehman Brothers in mortgage trading. This was followed by work in developing economies with IFC of the World Bank around the time of the Arab Spring. Looking for a bit more stability, he then founded HyperJar, a fintech, during the crypto and tech boom/bust before and after COVID and the demise of Silicon Valley Bank. Despite this, HyperJar has managed to survive and thrive, and now has almost three quarters of a million customers.
Mat is a lifelong fitness enthusiast and a single father of 4. He is dedicated to ensuring his children learn great money habits from an early age (whilst staying in top health!).
