Marshall McArthur

Marshall McArthur is a wannabe author who doesn't have an agent so he doesn't have an editor. He is a retired professor of Chinese language and culture from the University of Houston. In 2014 he self-published a novel titled Disintegrated Chinese. Nobody read it except for his sister Ruth who reviewed it as "quirky." Subsequently, Marshall published a new version in 2025, titled Diss Integrated Chinese. The book is a satire of teaching and studying the Chinese language and Chinese culture at the university level. Perhaps Ruth did not like that Marshall killed the main character Wang Peng on the first page of the novel, or perhaps Ruth could not fathom the 200 cartoons that accompany the novel's text.

In 2025 Marshall also published a short novel titled The Tallahassee Civil Rights Story as told by Miss Jasmine, In Black and White. This novel traces the racially tinged history of Tallahassee, Florida told from the point of view of 100-year-old black woman in 2020. The narrative design borrows from the Canterbury Tales as Larry, Kenneth, McArdle, and Rosemary spend afternoons with Miss Jasmine, narrating different aspects of Tallahassee’s history

Most recently Marshall has published the short novel Sophia of Viagra, which turns up interesting Google results when searching for the book's title. This novel relates the journey of the celebrity imposter Sophia, who travels to the small southern town of Three Egg searching for her biological father. Though she does not connect with her father, the town is awed by her appearance in their town where everybody shares property. There is no money, and no cars. Sophia is collecting material for a book when ICE raids the town, resulting in tragedy. Despite this downward plot spiral, the book is told in a comic, racy tone, and emphasizes how the world would be perfect if we all just accepted the inevitability of capitalism.
