Priscilla T Graham is a Gulf War U.S. Army Signal Corps veteran, documentary artist, genealogist, and the author of more than 49 books preserving African American history across Texas and the American South. Her work blends disciplined research with evocative photography, documenting Black settlements, one hundred year old churches, and historic communities whose stories have long been overlooked.
Her exhibitions include the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, the Houston Public Library, the Houston Freedmen’s Town Conservancy, and the Hogan Brown Gallery. She spent 18.5 years with the YMCA of Greater Houston, where she opened and managed the Houston Texans YMCA, the first YMCA in the country named after a professional sports team, and the first LEED Gold certified YMCA in Texas, serving families across Sunnyside, South Park, and Greater Third Ward.
Her acclaimed Hallowed Ground series documents 20 African American settlements, 102 one hundred year old churches, and 74 Texas historical site locations. She is the founder and CEO of Harriett’s History Box LLC, and her work ensures future generations will know exactly where they come from, and who made them.
